Obesity is a global health issue with few effective treatment options. This study examined whether the beneficial bacterium Bacillus subtilis DG101, already used as a probiotic, could help with weight loss in individuals with overweight or obesity. Nearly 300 people participated in the study, taking either the probiotic or just water (as a placebo) daily for 12 weeks, alongside a low-calorie, low-fat diet. By the end of the trial, those who took the probiotic showed greater reductions in body weight, fat mass, and body mass index (BMI) compared to the placebo group. Improvements in blood sugar levels (HbA1c) and insulin were also observed, especially in participants at risk of diabetes. Conclusion: Taking Bacillus subtilis DG101 along with a healthy diet may be a helpful strategy to support obesity treatment and improve blood sugar control.
